Why Not?

A friend saw a contest and insisted that I enter.  She is the same friend who encouraged me to submit for the TODAY Show / Huffington Post – 50 Over 50 Who Have Reinvented Themselves, and I was selected.  So, with that win, I thought Why Not?!  I had to submit an essay and below is the video I submitted.

The rest of the story is … I actually waiting until the last day. The deadline was 12 noon. I thought ‘Why Not?’ and I submitted.  I had fun making the pictorial video and also writing the essay.  I submitted at 10:30a.m.  Whew!  At 2:30p.m., I received my first notification that my submission made the first cut and was under consideration.  Wow!  Needless to say, I was really excited!  I called the friend who told me about the contest and told her.  She said she was not surprised and assured me, by her standards, I would be selected.

I didn’t hear anything else.  I was on my way to the airport to visit a friend in Anchorage, Alaska.  The friend called me and said I was featured on the Huffington Post web site. They had indeed selected me!  She was so excited for me!  I was excited, but had to get to the airport to catch my plane.  I was out of town for about two weeks, because I went from Alaska to the Grand Canyon for a special program for which I was involved with the Diverse Environmental Leaders National Speakers Bureau.  Sooo, upon my return, I spread the word and celebrated … all because I said ‘Why Not?’

Life is full of opportunities for us to ask ourselves ‘Why Not?’  When was the last time you asked yourself ‘Why Not?’ and went for it?  I have found those two words have helped me to truly follow my motto without hesitation –  “Live Life to the Fullest!!!’

You know, so many times I/we want to over think or over analyze things and usually end up talking ourselves out of it.  I have changed my mindset.  I now think ‘Why Not?’  What have I to lose, I definitely have, or am willing to make the time to compile the submission for the contest.  And, as I collect my thoughts to submit, I actually have fun in reliving some of the things I have done that they are asking for …  the process of preparing the submission allows me to review certain times in my life with greater appreciation.  And that appreciation is actually prompted by the fact that this good friend feels what I do is worthy of sharing with others, in a much broader capacity than I had ever considered.

The recently entered the Norwegian Cruise Lines and MAJIC 107.5/97.5 ‘Live Life to the Fullest’ contest to win a seven-day cruise for two.  The contest voting is going on as I write this blog, so who knows, maybe one of my future blog entries will be form the deck on one of the Norwegian Cruise Line ships … Why Not?!
